First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mattel.
Associate Manager
There were 4 stages and 5 interviews total over 6 weeks. It included an in-office interview with 2 managers. On the same morning of the in-office interview, I was told one manager was WFH and I would still take it in-office and had to bring my own equipment to host. The interviews themselves were half good half bad. One interviewer was aggressive. After a few interviews and being in the office in person, it had a corporate vibe. 4 weeks later, no update. I was told they were hiring ASAP and didn't hear anything back even after following up with the recruiter, not even a rejection. The job posting was gone then reposted with a different title. Unprofessional and inconsiderate.
- Can you tell me why you are interested in Mattel?
- How do you handle conflict?
- Describe your work style.
Senior Manager
I was contacted by HR initially. There was a written test, followed by an HR interview. Then, I had an interview with the Department Director after speaking with HR again. After that, HR sent an email inviting me to a panel interview that included a business case presentation. I also met with the Department Head. They requested proof of my qualifications before extending an official offer. Finally, I received confirmation of employment via email.
- Are you familiar with the toy requirements?
Manager
As one of the initial applicants for a recently advertised position, I found myself interacting with over six different HR recruiters or administrators throughout the process. The interviews were conducted over video chat and comprised four rounds. I completed an assessment and subsequently presented it to the hiring team. The entire experience was marked by extended periods of silence and a lack of follow-up, stretching over five months for the same job opening. The role was reposted four times while I was monitoring it. Initially enthusiastic about the role and the organization, I now view the prolonged timeline as a positive, offering insight into how I would be treated as an employee if an offer were extended. Although I haven't received a formal rejection, I anticipate that outcome. The experience has been highly unprofessional, and I feel a sense of relief in discovering this before committing to any offer.
- Could we have a casual chat about your work history and experience relevant to this position, rather than a formal resume walkthrough?
