Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Mattel.
Analyst
I had four interviews in total. The first one was with HR, which was super easy. The second was with my direct manager, the third with the HR director, and the fourth with the director of the area.
- How do you envision your career in the next five years?
- What is your motivation for seeking employment with our company?
- Can you describe your most significant challenge to date?
Analyst
I was feeling really good about this role and thought I would be a great asset. The more I found out about the job, the more I realized I was qualified. There were a lot of interviews, 4 in total, but I was okay with it because I knew I was a top candidate. The interviews themselves were good. I was shocked when I got rejected. The feedback was that I lacked some experience that other candidates had, even though I clearly had it and it was in my resume for them to see. It was confusing and absurd, and just showed some incompetence in how they evaluated things. I had what they were looking for, so it felt like a waste of my time.
- What makes you want to work for this company?
Analyst
The interview process started with an easy chat with HR and then the hiring manager and a peer. The hiring manager presented a case study, but the explanation wasn't super clear and there were some tech issues during it. Even though the interviews themselves seemed to go really well, it's been about two months, and the HR manager mentioned they're still in the first round and waiting to hear about next steps. Communication has really dropped off, even after I followed up a few times, which doesn't give a great impression of the company. It's really disappointing because the early stages of the process were clear and straightforward. If there's a hiring freeze, it would be good to let candidates know.
- Could you elaborate on specific details from my resume?
- Tell me more about the items listed on my resume.
- What can you tell me about each part of my resume?
