They set up four interviews for this internship, with the first two already scheduled. My first interview went well; I delved into a past project, and the engineer seemed interested. I also answered a question about GD&T. The second interview was with a rather arrogant engineer who aggressively questioned me about the same project and interrupted me a lot, even though we were short on time. They asked some kinematics questions and posed a challenge: how would I design a robot to ascend stairs? Unfortunately, I didn't get to the third interview and received a strange rejection email that was overly emotional instead of just stating I didn't get the position. Some peers in my engineering cohort had more interviews scheduled, but those were canceled, which was their way of informing them they weren't selected. This company interviewed many students from my engineering cohort but hired no one, then reposted the job on our university portal. Their co-op rating on our university job board plummeted from a solid 9.2 to a dismal 6.8 in just one term. Major warning signs. The pay is also significantly below average, particularly for the Bay Area. This company makes vacuum cleaners.

It was a tough test, but seemed fair. I didn't get an interview but appreciated the clear testing. It covered stuff like failure points and had a general optimization question.

I put in an application online back in Sep 2023. A few days later I got a phone call interview. They hit me with some basic questions about my projects, but the recruiter seemed pretty checked out and didn't seem to know much about the company. Whenever I tried to ask about the business side of things, they'd kinda hem and haw, like saying "um" and "you know", and then just read straight from the company website. It wasn't long before I got an email saying they weren't moving forward with my application.
