First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Matheson.
Graduate Trainee Lawyer
It was a nice and straightforward process. It was quite difficult to get through until the interview stage. First, there was an online application, then a Watson glacer assessment, followed by a video interview. After that, there were two stages of in-person interviews for the trainee lawyer programme.
- Could you please introduce yourself?
Logistics Planner
They had a first interview, and then invited me back for a second one. The manager seemed pretty chill, not super involved with the team, and he talked a lot about himself. He asked a bunch of questions about my last job and seemed really impressed. It felt like they were mostly looking for advice on how other companies handled transitions. The current employees were not happy with the manager and honestly, I'm glad they didn't move forward with me. They mentioned a lot of people leave because of the manager and one of his friends. Hopefully, they can get some better management to sort out the unprofessional vibe.
- Can you introduce yourself and share some of your key accomplishments from your previous role?
Project Manager
The hiring manager contacted me about a month after I applied, and we had a phone interview. A few days later, I was invited for an in-person interview. The arrangements for the in-person interview were handled professionally, including accommodations and travel. The face-to-face interview was with the manager and the VP of engineering. It was quite relaxed. I answered situational questions and we had a good general chat about the role. They said I'd hear about an offer on Monday, but the offer didn't arrive for six weeks. By then, I'd accepted another company's offer. I declined Matheson's offer due to a lower salary than requested and a non-lump-sum relocation package. The salary offer felt insulting given my experience, especially since I'd stated my expectations during the interview and they offered $20k less. I discussed this with the hiring manager, but they wouldn't budge, and neither would I.
- Can you share an instance where a project deviated from its plan and describe your actions to get it back on track?
Product Manager
Got a call from HR and then proceeded with round 2. Asked 2 guestimate questions, 2 process related questions, and 1 situation-based action question. Mostly the questions were regarding core PM job, not the technical part of it.
- What's the population of Westminster?
- Can you estimate the population of Westminster?
- How would you approach improving product X?
