First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MasterCuts.
Stylist
The management was really nice, but the clients were a bit rough. All the stylists were occupied, and the salon itself was tidy. You have to bring in models to demonstrate your hair skills, which is pretty standard for salon interviews.
- Can you tell me about your years of experience?
Hair Stylist
I first had a phone call, then went to the salon for an interview with the manager that lasted about 25 minutes where they asked about my skills. The next day, I had to bring in a hair model to demonstrate my hair cutting abilities.
- Can you tell me about your skills?
Manager
The interview process is entirely online, with an in-person technical test. This technical test involves a haircut (clipper cut, cut and style) and a 7 foil placement test, all done for free with no pay before hiring. The in-person session will last between 2 to 4 hours.
- Are you willing to work nights and weekends, with no set schedule, as the company dictates the hours and you don't get to choose?
Hair Dresser
I had a phone chat first, then went in for an in-person interview where I had to work on a model. I did a haircut, put in 7 foils, and styled it. They offered me the job right away. I felt ready for it when I went in. The manager liked my questions about products and sales. I acted like I was already part of the team, confident in my abilities.
- What are your goals for your career?
- What are your 5-year aspirations?
- How many years of experience do you have as a stylist?
