MasTec Communications Group Interview Questions
& Process

I had an in-person interview with the hiring accounting manager. She asked some basic questions about my education and experience. She also asked how much free time I thought I'd have in the first year. She was really nice and mentioned that Mastec is a good place to start a career but not really a place to stay long-term. She seemed really focused on finding someone who was looking for stability in the role.

Two managers interviewed me. One was friendly and one was unexpectedly hostile. The two obviously did not work together and the entire effort was very uncoordinated. The process is fine for those who are unfazed by odd and awkward situations charged with massive stress. Workplace interruptions occurred over a dozen times during the 90-minute interview and ultimately one interviewer just left, never to return. Still, I think because I had experience, a good attitude and no fear of bizarre interviews, an offer was extended beyond my asking salary. I began almost immediately.

I interviewed with a group of three people: my direct supervisor and two managers or directors. They were easy to talk to and asked really good, specific questions. All three seemed really positive about the company and made it sound like a great place to work with lots of chances to grow. I got an offer, but I turned it down for one main reason. They took two whole months to get back to me after the in-person interview with an offer. During that time, I had no idea if they were going to hire me or not. When they finally reached out again, they said there was a hiring freeze, but by then I had already interviewed and accepted a job elsewhere.

So the interview process started with a lengthy talk with the supervisor, and I was told if that went well, I'd get a second interview with the manager. After the manager felt I was good for the job, they asked if I could head to Alabama right away, which I did, and stayed until their contract ended. Then I came back to New Orleans for a new contract with a different manager, and when that contract was lost, I worked for another manager until I was laid off, even though I was a loyal and good worker.
