We'll have a friendly chat to see how you communicate, if you seem professional, and if you've got customer service experience. We'll also do a quick role-play where you'll handle some bookings or customer questions to check if you're a good fit for the receptionist job.

I applied for the management role and got a call in for an interview. When I got there, they told me that given my background, I'd only be considered for an assistant manager position with significantly less pay, even though I have over 4 years of management experience. They asked some inappropriate questions like 'are you married,' 'do you have a family,' and then 'who babysits for you?'. This gave me a good idea of what it would be like to work for the owner. The job is also commission-based, and it felt like the owner is looking for someone who will be completely devoted to the company, which I'm not interested in.

I had a hard time finding out about pay. They were cagey about giving a specific dollar amount and just said it's based on experience. I get that, but other places gave me at least a range. They mentioned their top earners make $30 per hour, but implied that's only if you're a massage instructor or speaker, not typical. No pay range was offered. This lack of transparency on pay is a concern for me. Also, they don't do full massage times; it's 50/80 minutes, not 60/90. They said they can't do online bookings if they give full massage time and include a 15-minute cleanup between clients, which I found odd since I've worked places that do both. They also seemed hard to get a hold of, suggesting they need someone dedicated to hiring since the person I spoke with was clearly too busy.

Be yourself, the interview can take 1.5 hours or more, which is pretty typical for this field. They usually have a list of questions for everyone. I had to give two 30 minute massages, one deep tissue and one Swedish. Just take some deep breaths and wear something comfortable and nice. It takes a few weeks to actually start working there because you have to pass a background check first.
