Getting the interview process started at this company was a bit of a slog, requiring quite a bit of chasing and help from someone I knew inside. The person interviewing me hit me with about fifteen behavioral questions, which was pretty draining.

Behavioral Technical

I had one interview and was offered the position within a few days of the interview. Interviewed with 4 people but 2 of them asked most of the questions. There were lots of situational questions, "Tell us about a time when..." They described the IT organization at a high level. The description indicated that the IT department was in a state of re-org, which proved to be accurate when I started working there. Be prepared to ask questions about the type of work you will be doing and which projects you will be assigned. They have two groups of PMs. One group works on clinical projects. The other works on building projects and IT projects with networks and servers.

It was supposed to be a panel interview, but one person couldn't make it. The interviewer asked if I preferred SQL, Exchange, or general system administration. I said I could do any, but preferred general until I learned more about the environment. The interview went well, and I think I impressed the interviewer with my skills because he gave me positive feedback. He told the recruiter he really liked me. But within 48 hours, things changed. The interviewer decided not to move forward because he wasn't convinced of my skill level. It's weird, especially since this was my second interview with them recently. If they weren't sure the first time, why call me back? It seems like their IT services segment is disorganized and reactive. A little bitter about the travel cost and what happened. But in hindsight, it's good I didn't get an offer.

Behavioral Technical Group Presentation

The interview process was pretty standard. First, a phone screen with the HR recruiter, then an on-site interview with the recruiter, the hiring manager, and some of the team members who report to the hiring manager. They were very open about the salary. What was disappointing was how they handled things after the interviews. They gave me a date for a decision and told me to call them if I hadn't heard back by then. I did, and they said the decision was delayed. I waited another two weeks (my bad), and when I called again, they told me the position was filled. I wonder if I hadn't called them twice, if they would have ever contacted me. I know someone else who went through the same thing. It feels like a tactic they use with candidates, and it reflects really badly on Marshfield Clinic. It's unprofessional to leave candidates in limbo, especially when they promise a call that never happens.
