Found the job on Indeed, then had to fill out a long form on their site. Got an email asking for my resume and to set up a phone interview. The phone interview was standard. Then got a condescending email about needing a bachelor's degree, which wasn't mentioned before. I explained I'm a self-learner with industry experience. Instead of answering my questions about degree relevance, I got a generic HR response. It felt like ageism and sexism, a really disappointing and poor experience.

I interviewed with a recruiter, but unfortunately, I didn't get past the initial recruitment stage for the rehab director position. The interviewer asked me why I hadn't been a rehab director more recently. I explained that I stayed on as a treating COTA while I was raising my young children. My real passion is in directing, and I'm eager to get back into it now that my kids are older. I also mentioned that I always stay up-to-date on reimbursement changes in our profession because that's crucial for our field to function.

I applied on the website after seeing the job description on Indeed.com. My resume was passed along for a Staffing Coordinator role instead of the Recruiter role I originally applied for. I wasn't given a phone screen but was called and scheduled for an onsite interview. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the staff seemed genuinely courteous to residents and other staff members, while remaining dignified and professional. I am observant because I want a career and to be associated with an organization that believes in my abilities and is willing to help me help them. A focus of the interview was training, which they seem to have pride in helping their staff become well-equipped. The interview itself was pleasant, though one of the three interviewers couldn't make it. It wasn't an endless barrage of behavioral questions, but more relaxed, allowing me to get to know the company, its representatives, and assess my fit for the role. It also gave them a platform to learn about what I could offer Marquis Companies. Coming from HR, I know the benefits of behavioral questions, but companies can sometimes miss good talent by overdoing them. I was surprised they didn't take notes, which is standard. The job description was clear and defined, with no ambiguities. I was laid off, went back to college for another degree, and am trying to get traction in HR. I graduated with a bachelor's in HR, some HR experience, and a lot of customer service/retention experience. I was hoping to work with this organization, but they apparently hired a candidate with healthcare experience, which I lack but am eager to learn. So, I was passed over this time. I hope to be called for another HR opportunity at Marquis!

After applying online, a recruiter will reach out to chat about available shifts and positions at different facilities. They'll confirm if you're interested in moving forward. If so, the recruiter will connect you with the team at your preferred location. The next step is an interview, usually with the Director of Nurses, and sometimes with the Administrator or Staff Coordinator.
