Senior Software Engineer
It started with a recruiter call, then we moved to a coding round where I shared my screen, and finally, a chat with the Hiring Manager. The interviewers were super nice and even gave me tips on how to approach things. The recruiter mentioned three more sessions: two 45-minute behavioral interviews and a system design round using screen share with Lucid chart. The whole thing wrapped up in about 2.5 weeks, and the recruiter was quick to give feedback after every step, which was great. It all went really smoothly.
- Can you discuss distributed systems?
- What are the fundamental principles of system design?
- How would you build a Set data structure from scratch?
Software Engineer
The recruiter was nice and explained the whole process, but couldn't really answer my specific questions about the team or role, just general stuff. They said I'd have to talk to the hiring manager for more details. The coding questions were super easy, not even LeetCode level. But the behavioral part was weird, they asked random stuff and didn't seem to pay much attention. When I asked my questions, the hiring manager wasn't much help either, saying they didn't know much and were just there to ask questions. It felt like nobody really knew why the job was open, maybe just to hit some target.
- What random behavioral questions did you get? and tell me about a design style question.
- Tell me about a design style question.

I had a great time interviewing with Marqeta! The recruiters were super helpful, especially since I was traveling abroad. They worked with my schedule and made sure all my interviews were set up easily. It all went super smoothly. First, there was a 45-minute to an hour chat with the hiring manager, then a 1-hour coding session. The last part was a system design interview and a behavioral interview, each an hour long. After that, they did team matching, which took about two weeks, but they kept me in the loop the whole time. The recruiters and team were always easy to get a hold of and responsive, which made everything feel stress-free. I'd totally recommend Marqeta's interview process because it's organized, they communicate well, and it's professional.
- Could you start by telling me about yourself?
- Can you solve a medium Leetcode/coding question?
