First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Marmol Radziner.
Job Captain
Applied directly and heard back pretty quickly to schedule the first interview. Met at the office with one studio director initially, and a second studio director joined for the last 15 minutes of the hour meeting. Was told the office operated continuously in-person through the pandemic, and the energy of the staff felt that way (tired, didn’t make eye contact or say hello). The interview seemed to go well but they went quiet for a month before reaching out for a last-minute second interview. I had accepted another position by then and declined.
- What are your career aspirations for your next position?
Interior Designer
So I got this email after sending in my resume and cover letter. They first suggested a phone interview, but I said I could come to their office instead, and they were cool with that. It was only about ten minutes long and I met with three people who were at different management levels. They barely glanced at my portfolio, mostly just asking me stuff about why I wanted to work there, how my schooling prepped me for actual work, what I'd done before, and who my fave architect was. It was super hard to tell if I did well, they gave nothing away. No office tour or meeting anyone else happened. I sent a follow-up email and heard back maybe two weeks after the interview.
- Tell me about your motivations for applying to this specific company.
- How do you think your academic background has equipped you for practical application in the field?
- Could you describe your previous professional experiences?
Architectural Designer
Applied online and got a call for an interview in a few days. It was pretty casual and informal. A week later, I had a follow-up interview, and it seemed like they were interested. I followed up with emails, but they never got back to me, which I thought was unprofessional. They could have just sent a quick email saying they found someone.
- What software are you familiar with?
- Are you more drawn to residential or commercial architecture?
- Could you present your drawing sets and portfolio?
Site Superintendent
This company hires fast when they need someone. You can find openings on craigslist and their website. They get tons of resumes because a lot of people want to work on their fancy projects, so make sure yours is noticeable or just go in person. Check back often.
- Are you highly organized?
- Are you a great communicator?
- Are you able to work autonomously?
