So, the HR person asked me what I knew about the company and its business. I gave a brief overview, and then she elaborated. Then came the typical 'Tell me about yourself' question. I explained my background and how I thought it aligned with the business. After that, she said I'd be invited for a face-to-face interview. But, two days later, I got an email from her saying I wasn't selected. I found it pretty unprofessional to get my hopes up for an interview and then be told no. She probably shouldn't have mentioned bringing me in if she couldn't actually do it. The HR person also asked about my past salary, which I answered honestly. They came back with information that the starting salary is $35K-$40K and they don't go above $40K.

Applied on LinkedIn and got contacted by HR. HR asked standard questions about the company and my background fit. Previously, I had a bad experience with this company where they canceled a phone screen last minute. The hiring manager then phone-screened me with a technical test on data analysis, which I did well on. I was then invited for an in-person interview. During the onsite, the interviewers seemed unsure about the skills they were looking for. One interviewer from engineering was distant and judgmental, asking no job-related questions and finishing in under 5 minutes. He mentioned the job involved statistical modeling, which he stressed was not engineering, despite him interviewing for it. Other interviewers disagreed about the need for statistical modeling. I questioned why they didn't test for statistical skills earlier if that was a requirement, especially since I took a day off and traveled for the interview.

The initial interview was a casual meet and greet focused on your personality fit rather than your skills. If they liked you, they'd give you a dataset and a one-page analysis task using charts and graphs. Even though I apparently did great on the interview and analysis, I didn't get the job because one of the hiring managers decided beforehand. They also don't tell you until after the first interview that they're just building a hiring pool and not making immediate offers.

Behavioral Technical Other

It was a 3 stage process back in 2018. First, a recruiter introduced me. Then, I met with my future colleagues (other CSMs) and my line manager. Finally, I had an interview with the Director, who was based in the US. The first two interviews were face-to-face in London, but the last one was on Skype.
