Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at MarketStar.
Specialist
I went through two phone interviews. The first one was more of a 'get to know you' chat and they explained the role. The second interview was technical, where they asked me about operating systems and my tech experience. They seem to really value someone who's a 'people person'.
- Can you tell me about your experience with operating systems?
- What kind of technology do you use on a daily basis?
- Can you explain what operating systems are?
Specialist
I got a recruiter call for a Google Chrome Specialist role, which was a brief phone interview. Then I got an email and had an interview with the hiring manager. After not hearing back for 7 days, I contacted the recruiter who noticed I applied for a Sony position. The next day, I had a HireVue video interview with the recruiter. Three days later, the hiring manager called with an offer. I was given 48 hours for background checks, new hire paperwork, and a drug test. After that, I got an email confirming everything was clear and a call from my regional manager was scheduled for training. They have a cool, futuristic approach to video interviewing.
- Be personable, enthusiastic, and outgoing. Always smile.
- Answer the questions thoroughly, they are not tricky.
- Practice the mock sales pitch. If you have to pick a product to sell, I recommend choosing any Sony device.
Specialist
Your market manager will likely call you first to talk about the hours, days, and pay. They'll ask if you're interested in proceeding to an interview. I'm not sure if there's an immediate short interview, but someone else will call you for a phone interview a day or so later. They'll schedule a specific time for this interview, so it won't be a random call. The market manager doesn't conduct the interview. During the interview, they ask standard questions and some technology-related questions to check your knowledge. For me, they asked things like explaining Bluetooth or the difference between matte and glossy monitor finishes. If they're happy with you, they'll start the hiring process. You'll digitally sign documents on a website and need to complete a drug test within a day or so. If you need to travel out of state for training, they'll arrange your flights.
- Could you explain what Bluetooth is?
- Can you describe the difference between a matte and a glossy monitor finish?
