First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Marc J. Bern & Partners.
Law Clerk
I thought this was a remote job, but the interviewer told me it was in-person only. I declined the offer because it was too far and they said I wouldn't be able to submit a writing sample.
- Are you able to work on-site?
Legal Assistant
I got an email to schedule an in person interview at the San Francisco office. When I got there, he took some notes about my resume and reviewed them. The interview went well and he explained what he was looking for in a legal assistant. I also got to ask him questions. After the interview, as he was walking me out, he asked me how I met my husband. This question caught me off guard as I hadn't discussed my personal life and it felt very invasive. I decided I wouldn't accept the job offer even if it was extended.
- How did you meet your husband?
Associate Attorney
I had a 45-minute Zoom interview that was followed by an in-person interview. The salary they initially offered was a bit lower than my current pay. I proposed a counter-offer, and after that, I received no further communication. In my experience, if it's not a match or they're considering other candidates, you typically hear back, rather than just complete silence. I'd advise anyone considering this firm to be aware that they might go silent after making an offer.
- Can you tell us about your experience?
- Could you describe the types of proceedings you've handled?
- What kinds of motions have you drafted?
Paralegal
I had an interview with a Partner from the Pharma Dept. She spoke very fast and in a low tone, making it difficult to understand. She then brought in a PI attorney and her twin sister. I wasn't sure if this was a conflict of interest for a law firm. The overall feeling was less of an interview and more like they were asserting their authority and way of doing things.
- Are you able to work independently?
