My experience with applying and interviewing at Marathon Oil was really good. I used my university's career services and applied through their site. They want at least a 3.0 GPA, but the people who got offers from my school had a 3.5 or higher. I heard back the Monday after the deadline that I got an interview. The day before, there was a job fair for STEM fields where I met lots of employers. I stopped by the Marathon Oil booth, introduced myself, and mentioned my interview for the next day. The recruiters were super nice and helped me get ready by answering my questions about the company. I wore nice slacks, an open collared shirt, a tie, and a blazer. The recruiters really noticed how well I was dressed, saying that dressing like you care makes a big impression. They asked about my schoolwork, past jobs, and how they could help me as an engineer in the future. They asked for examples of dealing with problems on a team, overcoming individual technical problems, and handling difficult group members. They took notes on everything I said, including 'buzz words' like 'safety,' 'teamwork,' and 'leadership.' I brought a portfolio with extra copies of my resume, transcript, etc., and I took notes myself. I had questions ready about student loans, internship locations, and health care for interns. I made good eye contact and spoke confidently. I was interviewed by an engineer and someone from HR talent acquisition. They were both really polite and helpful, and they seemed genuinely interested in learning about me, unlike some interviews where it feels like the interviewer is just going through the motions. I'd recommend this company, and if you don't get an offer, find out why, fix it, and try again.

I first ran into them the night before my university's Career Fair at an employer panel event. They gave me their business cards and said they were really interested in talking to me at the career fair the next day. When I went to their booth they recognized me right away and pulled me aside to give me info on the internship. I was put on their interview list and told to fill out an application on their company website (always required). I was told to go to an info session before my interview to learn more about the company and meet the interviewers. During the interview, I was asked a bunch of situational questions about teamwork, leadership, and innovation. I was told the next business day that I was being offered a summer internship.

I applied online and then got called to interview on campus the following week. The interviewer was really informative about the company and the role, explaining what the internship would be like and the benefits of doing it. They asked a bunch of questions about teamwork and how my past experiences made me a better team player. They also asked about my 5-year career goals.
