The first round had two in-person interviews. They started with standard fit/behavioral questions as a warm-up, then moved into a case study. There was a written case included. The interviewer for the written case was nice and interacted well, but the other interviewer was 20 minutes late and seemed uninterested the whole time. They gave me a travel reimbursement form, but I never got my travel money back, haha. Also, no feedback was given even though they mentioned it would be before the interview.

The interview process with Marakon was quite unpleasant, despite meeting the team being a positive experience. Two major issues stood out: First, the process felt incredibly self-centered. After the final round, candidates who weren't selected received a polite email stating they couldn't provide feedback due to the high volume of applications. It's baffling to spend over 5 hours interviewing and not get any feedback, especially from a boutique firm. This suggests a potentially negative culture, and the reviews on GlassDoor seem to be accurate. It's ironic that Marakon, a smaller firm, doesn't offer feedback, while larger firms like MBB, with far more applicants, do. Perhaps they should only invite as many candidates as they can provide feedback for. It's also contradictory that their website encourages seeking feedback from other companies, yet they withhold it themselves. Second, the interview guidelines were very vague. Before the final round, candidates were told there would be two 'Fit Interviews' and one Case interview. However, all three were essentially case interviews, just with different levels of structure. The 'Case Interview' was the most structured. One 'Fit Interview' included a short fit component and a deep dive into a business or industry of interest. The other 'Fit Interview' had minimal small talk about the candidate's profile, with the rest of the hour dedicated to general brainstorming questions like 'what should a company consider when entering a new market.' This vagueness could be intentional to catch candidates off guard, or the recruitment team might be unaware of the interview content, neither of which reflects well on the firm.

I applied through my college's career center website and then had an over the phone case interview. The final round was in their office in NYC and consisted of three 45 minute interviews. The first interview was a highly quantitative case. The second interview was exclusively fit questions and was very relaxed. The third interview was more of a qualitative case where they give you a case to read through, leave the room for 15 minutes, and then ask you questions about it. We had extra time so we did some brain teasers.
