Graphic Designer
I found the opening on Mapp's website and applied. HR reached out quickly for a quick 15-minute chat to give me the lowdown on the company and the gig, and we touched on my background. Then I had a proper interview with the Director of Marketing. It was a good chat where we dove deeper into the role, went over my experience, and they laid out the rest of the plan: two more interviews and a task. Sadly, that's where it ended for me. I tried to get some feedback but never heard back, no word on why I didn't move forward.
- Could you tell me about your past experience and how it aligns with the requirements of this position?
- Are you available to commute to our London office for work?
Data Scientist
I applied online in Feb, 2020 and they got back to me within a week. First, there was a conversation with HR, then a technical interview. We talked about my background and previous projects, and they asked some technical questions. It was a positive and friendly chat. I got rejected after the technical round. I think there were supposed to be 2 more rounds, one involving coding and then a company visit.
- In which scenarios do Label Encoding and One-hot Encoding fail?
- Under what circumstances does Cross-validation not prevent overfitting?
Payroll Manager
The interview process had 4 stages, which felt too long and didn't effectively assess competence, maybe the order could have been different. Stage 1 was a screening phone interview by Talent Acquisition to check experience and seniority. Stage 2 was a phone interview with HR, asking similar questions plus some competency ones. Stage 3 was a Skype interview with the hiring manager, mainly about relevant knowledge. Then, what was supposed to be a quick, informal 'meet the team' chat and office tour turned into a full 70-min HR grilling (stage 4) with one HR person in person and another on a bad phone line. They asked AGAIN about my previous experience, and also some irrelevant questions more suited for a graduate program, making me question the 'senior' title. It felt like teams don't communicate well or there's no trust, given the repeated questions. The questions also suggested the role was more overpaid admin than strategic, with little autonomy. They also wouldn't share salary brackets, which is a missed opportunity to attract good candidates.
- What prompted your departure from your previous role?
- Could you describe your approach to handling customer inquiries?
- What would you consider your most significant accomplishment?
Sales CRM Administrator
I was invited for an onsite interview in San Diego on February 12, 2018. It was a 2-hour interview with 3 different people. Everything seemed to go well, and HR discussed the next steps with me. On February 21st, I received an email from the UK team asking to conduct a Skype call on February 22, 2018, and they sent a meeting invitation link. On February 21st, around 6:00 PM PST, I got an email from HR stating they wouldn't proceed with my candidacy because my Skype call was already scheduled for February 22nd at 8:30 AM PST with the UK Team. On the interview day, February 22nd, I was ready for the Skype call. However, 15 minutes before our scheduled call, the UK team removed the event and declined the invitation without prior notice. This was a totally unfair decision without a proper explanation. There was no clear flow in the interview process. They finally mentioned that they were promoting an internal candidate for this role. If that was the case, why go through the interview process if their internal employee could do the job? It felt like they were playing with someone's career.
- What is the process to determine how a CRM will be beneficial for the Sales team and how you can integrate their services to generate more leads? Mostly scenario-based use cases.
