Manifest's interview process began quite casually, with each call feeling more like a peer discussion than a formal interview. The relaxed tone helped me feel comfortable and express myself more naturally.

So I had the usual recruiter call and then a phone interview with the Director. The Director told me he was moving forward and would send a skills test, and we would meet the next week. I waited a few days, didn't get the test, so I reached out to the recruiter. Her response was automated and generic, saying they decided to pass. Which is fine, but it's frustrating not to be upfront. It seems like people avoid being direct to avoid awkwardness, but honestly, I wouldn't have minded knowing and wouldn't have been waiting around. Companies wonder why they have high turnover; it's because leaders aren't transparent. Given how hard it is to find people right now, you'd think basic respect and honesty would be a priority.

The hiring process was pretty disorganized. I had an initial phone screen which went okay. After that, I interviewed with two different teams. They didn't give me much information about what to expect. For one interview, they told me five people would be there, but only one of them actually showed up, plus two others. After interviewing with the second team, I never heard back. It would be nice to get a simple email from HR to let me know the outcome, like if you went with another candidate or filled the position internally. If I'm not the right fit, that's fine, but these kinds of communication gaps leave a bad impression.

The hiring process here is pretty messy, and honestly, they know it. You start with a phone interview, then there's an in-person meeting with HR, but expect to wait around half an hour for that. If you make it past that, the next in-person interview involves meeting a few people from your department, and again, another half-hour wait. After that, you'll wait another 30 minutes to an hour to finally talk to the hiring manager or department head. It's a really drawn-out process, likely taking about two weeks to complete. The whole thing is just not well-organized, mainly because everyone's always swamped with work and doesn't really set aside specific times for interviews.
