Software Developer
Applied for a role in Tallinn, Estonia and had a really bad experience. Started with a good HR call. Then a technical interview with two developers who seemed to struggle with English and the questions they were asking. Had to sign an NDA that followed US laws despite applying in Estonia. The technical questions felt like they were pulled from a script or ChatGPT, and they expected exact answers without understanding the concepts themselves. The developers seemed to have a language barrier in English. Also, the answers they gave to my questions about their applications were not good.
- Could you explain the purpose of "useEffect" in React?
- Regarding useEffect, how is it done to unsubscribe from an event?
- What are your thoughts on mixins and how have you incorporated them into your work?
Software Engineer
The interview process started with a phone call from HR, though email might be a better initial contact method. Following that, there was a tech assignment that took about 3 days to complete. It was only after this assignment, just before scheduling the next meeting, that I was asked to sign an NDA. My suspicion is that this NDA is meant to protect the company by making me liable for any confidential information disclosed. Because of this, I had to decline the offer, which unfortunately meant the time spent on the assignment was wasted for everyone. A suggestion would be to present the NDA earlier in the process, or ideally, remove it altogether. I'm not sure why an Estonian citizen would be expected to be familiar with California laws.
- Can you list some software design patterns?
- Explain the working of the event loop.
Software Engineer
I spoke with the recruiter by phone about my previous work history, the interview process, and the pay. I cannot give details about the actual interviews because I only spoke with the recruiter.
- Tell me about your previous professional experience.
