First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Major, Lindsey & Africa.
In-House Counsel Recruiter
I was headhunted on LinkedIn and after an initial chat, I got really interested. For five weeks, I went through 9 interviews with people all over the company. Most were pretty good, knowledgeable and spent extra time talking with me. A few interviews felt repetitive, like they weren't coordinated. One person hadn't even read my resume and thought I didn't have a law degree, which I do. After the last interview in December, they said they'd decide in the new year. I waited, followed up in January, and heard there'd be more delays. In February, I got a vague voicemail and then a standard rejection email. So, 9 interviews, about 25 hours of my time including prep and assessments, and 91 days from first contact to rejection. No feedback or real explanation, which is weird for a company that does candidate experience. Apparently, not everyone in the process talks to the decision-makers, which seems outdated for a 500-person firm. The tech is also old, with lots of manual work. When I asked about improving things, they shut down. This is a 'culture fit' place, not 'culture add,' so if you like to question or change things, it might not be for you. The job itself is interesting and the people were nice, but the internal coordination and post-interview communication were lacking, especially given their business. If you go for it, get timeline expectations clear upfront.
- Can you share your recruiting background? What are your strengths, both measurable and not? What positive words have your colleagues used for you? What are your areas for development?
- What is your understanding of this specific role?
- How long have you worked in talent acquisition, and what led you to this career path?
Recruiter
First you talk to the internal recruiter, then you meet with the person who would be your manager, then you meet with key teammates/colleagues. This gives you a lot of chances to get a feel for both the job and the people/personalities you might be working with.
- Can you tell me about your previous work experience?
Corporate Counsel
Had 3 separate experiences. The first was great. Very responsive with a clear path regarding the next step. Eventually did not get the job, but was extremely satisfied with the way I was treated. The next 2 contacts with the company for 2 other positions were, lets just say confusing. The communication was misleading and sporadic. Recruiters did not return calls or answer emails. I have received 2 additional inquiries whether I would be interested in position A or job B. Given the experience, I've decided to simply not reply.
- What did you expect?
Public Relations Communications Manager
I talked to three people from the marketing team. First, I had a meeting with the director, and then I met with the other two people together. They seemed a bit reserved, but they were nice. They didn't ask any tough questions. Instead, we just chatted about the job's duties and how my background fit with them.
- No difficult or unexpected questions were asked.
