Mahindra Engineer Interview Questions
& Process

We started with a company presentation where they talked about the roles like R&D, Manufacturing, and Marketing. The hiring had 3 stages. Stage 1 was a test with technical, logical, and verbal questions, plus some about the farm and automobile sectors. Stage 2 was a Group Discussion & Personality Test, lasting about 2 hours for a group. We had to decide what to do in those 2 hours. Our group did a 'tell us about yourself' session, followed by 2-3 group discussions. The first GD topic was 'A pink pyajama is found lying over red fort', and for the second, we chose 'Commonwealth Games were good or bad'. After that, we had to pick the two best people from the group and say why, and also state our preferred role. Stage 3 was the Interview, held 2-3 days after GDPI. We were given a form to fill and bring for the interview, which seriously formed the basis of the interview. The form asked about achievements and aspirations. Since I chose R&D, my interview was purely technical, covering core Mechanical Engineering subjects like strength of materials, machine design, fluids, automobile working, IC engines, and metallurgy. They asked basic questions, so knowing your basics is key. They might ask about your favorite subjects; in my case, they asked about all subjects studied and then asked questions. College car project experience is a big plus. The interview lasted about 30 minutes, and the interviewers were friendly, even helping with a question. Be on time for presentations and interviews; one friend was rejected for being late. The results were announced later.

The interview process included a technical discussion covering educational and work background, algorithms developed, estimating fuel consumption reduction potential, and HCU software development. There was also an HR round focusing on motivations for joining Mahindra, career aspirations (10-year outlook, short-term/long-term goals), salary expectations, reasons for relocating to Chennai, and planned tenure at the company. This was followed by a background check and an offer.

This was a normal interview where they asked technical questions about my work. They also asked some basic calculations related to the work, and questions about my in-depth knowledge of my work. I was also asked to explain a project I had completed fully, and about my product experience.
