So after the first 20-minute intro call, I got this questionnaire. They said it'd take about 3 hours to do. Your answers would decide if you got to the second interview, out of three total. Basically, the questionnaire was like a sample work assignment. Usually, you get paid for this kind of thing, but not this time. The job ad said they wanted someone with a year of content marketing experience, basic SEO knowledge, and that CRO was a bonus. But the questionnaire? It needed solid intermediate to advanced SEO skills and a really good handle on CRO to even have a shot at completing it well. It was frustrating because the job ad and what they actually wanted for the questionnaire didn't match up. It felt like I was doing a bunch of work for free just to maybe get to the next interview. My suggestion to the company is to be way clearer about what the job actually requires and what they expect from candidates before asking them to spend hours working for free. For anyone applying, I'd say try to ask more questions upfront before you start the sample work, just to make sure it's a good fit. Though that's tough since you only get a 20-minute call before they hit you with the questionnaire.

Behavioral Other

The interview process moved really fast. It was a really thoughtful interview process - you can tell that they truly care about the candidate experience. Communication from the recruiter was great - always timely and she took the time to ensure I was prepared for each interview. I also appreciate the fact that they compensated me for my time completing the take-home exercise. Everyone I interviewed with seemed like good, kind people to work with and were passionate about Magoosh's mission. That said, I was interviewing for a new role that required subject matter expertise in a sensitive area, and I believe that some of the team members I met with felt intimidated, triggered, and/or had unfounded ideas on how that work should be performed. I concluded this based on my impressions during the interviews along with the post-interview feedback that I received. Disappointed that I didn't get the offer because it seems like a great place to work, but do wish them well on their journey!

Behavioral Case Presentation

The interview process was deliberate and thorough. There were many stages: a brief phone interview, a questionnaire with case studies, a longer culture interview via phone, an interview with the CEO (Skype), and finally an on-site half-day interview. Overall, the process took around 2 months from start to finish. While it was long, the deliberateness also affirmed the importance of the role and my fit in the role to the company. It also affirmed the overall care that the company has for its employees. I listed the difficulty as "difficult", though it wasn't difficult in a negative way. I would describe it as more providing a challenge that communicated the role and company expectations for the role.

I agree with many of the other posters who shared negative experiences. I was required to complete a long questionnaire that took me about 6 hours. Another poster stated that they were compensated for this stage of the hiring process, which only makes me feel even more frustrated, because I received nothing except an abrupt "thanks, but you aren't moving on to the next round" email. And as much as Magoosh tries to tie it in with their quirky culture (translation: "we only hire people who are under the age of 35 and don't know any better!"), it just feels gross to me. This is clearly a way for Magoosh obtain free consultations from qualified candidates they have no intention of actually interviewing in-person. Stay away!
