First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Macquarie Group.
Financial Analyst
It was a long interview process with 3 rounds in total, starting with a screening call. They really dug deep into the technical side of things. There were also a good number of behavioral questions, and the usual stuff like why Macquarie and why this specific role.
- What motivated your application for this role at Macquarie?
Financial Analyst
The whole thing took about 4 months. I applied online and HR got back to me maybe 1-2 weeks later. The first call was with someone in HR from FL, and it was pretty standard, covering my background and experience with some light technical questions. A week after that, I had a second call with the Front Office Recruiter from NYC, which was more like a chat about my past work. A few days later, I was told I'd have another call with my direct manager. This one was chill, focused on personality and preferences like OS, books, hobbies, and sports. After that, I waited about a week and then got called in for a group interview with associates and managers. It was a long session (over 2 hours) and pretty relaxed, more of a discussion to see if I fit the team and role. It took another 2.5 weeks to hear back, and then HR set up a fifth round with directors and SVPs. These guys were sharp, and you really had to be on your game with the breadth and depth questions. I didn't do any online IQ or personality tests, which I think should be done in person anyway. Overall, I liked talking to everyone, just wish the timing between stages was a bit better.
- What's the latest book you've finished reading?
- Can you tell me about your biggest weaknesses?
- How would you handle this particular scenario, and what steps would you take to assist your client?
Financial Analyst
It was good, I found it interesting. It took 3 interviews and a psychometric test. I applied and got an email from a recruiter saying they would like to ask some questions. After that, I received another email stating the hiring manager would like to interview me. There were two hiring managers during the first interview. Then I received an email stating that I had passed and would go on to do the psychometrics test.
- Mostly questions in financial instruments and behavioral questions
