You need to apply through government jobs.com. The interview process has 3 panels. One panel will be HR, and two panels will be from the department you're applying for. Each interviewer gives you a score. If applicants have tied scores, there will be a second interview.
- What are your typical interview questions?
- Can you answer specific Macomb County government questions? You should do your research.
Account Clerk
The interview was a 3 person panel interview. They asked nothing about experience or knowledge. The majority of the questions asked were about how I deal with conflict. It seemed like they asked the same conflict question 20 different ways, so be prepared to give a few examples. And when I mean they ask nothing about work experience or knowledge I mean NOTHING. I actually gave an example of something I learned in school that helped me solve a work place problem and one of the interviewers basically said they did not value school but work experience. So I guess my advice would be only talk about work experiences.
- Describe a significant challenge you encountered at work and how you resolved it.
Program Coordinator
Once you get an interview, you'll get an email with a weblink to pick your interview date and time. The interview itself has one to three managers and an HR person. The interviewers ask questions one by one, and they write down your answers as you speak. You get points based on how the interviewer feels you answered. It's usually awkward because it's stiff, with minimal eye contact and not much room for natural interaction. Apart from what the job posting says, you won't learn anything about the job until you ask at the end.
- What is your understanding of our agency?
- What are your qualifications for this role?
- How would you respond to a 'what if' situation?
Health Educator
I applied to the job and it took about 3.5 months to get an interview request. After the interview, I accepted the job within a week and started about a month later. The interview itself was about an hour long and I sat on a panel with 3 managers who asked basic interview questions. I also got to ask questions about the position. It all went very smoothly.
- Why are you a good candidate for this job?
