First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Macomb Community College.
Adjunct Faculty
I heard back about my application about two months later. The interview process involved a conversation, and then I got an offer email detailing the classes I might teach. After I accepted, there was a week of training.
- What are your strategies for managing a diverse classroom environment?
Associate Dean
There was a round table discussion where prepared questions were given to both faculty and staff. We had 30 minutes to review the questions individually, take notes, and prepare our answers. They asked the same questions to everyone in a round robin fashion.
- Could you describe your experience with faculty unions?
Business Development Manager
I applied online and got a response within a week. Then, I was scheduled for an in-person interview two weeks after applying. This F2F interview involved a six-person hiring board and a ten-minute presentation I had to prepare. It felt like more prep was needed than usual, and the hiring board wasn't super welcoming.
- What relevant experience do you have from previous jobs for this role?
- How much experience do you have collaborating with other businesses on curriculum delivery?
- How would you tailor your presentation for a prospective business partner?
Student Activities Aide
It was a pretty chill interview, but we still got through the important stuff. They wanted to see if I was a good fit for helping people out in higher education. Basically, they need to know if I can work well with others and if I respect the chain of command. Just make sure you know what the department does and what your role is for, and you should be good.
- Since working here means interacting with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures, how effectively can you collaborate with individuals different from yourself?
