Finance Manager
Recruiter hit me up on Linkedin for an initial 30-min call to chat about the company and my resume. Then had a second call with the senior manager I'd report to, which was similar. Took a few days, heard nothing back. Recruiter was hard to get a hold of via email. Finally got an onsite with about 5-6 people for 30 mins each. Met with the finance folks (mostly i-bankers) - some were nice, some were socially awkward and didn't make eye contact. Also met a co-founder who was cool. There was a take-home assignment involving analyzing competitors, company opportunities, how to stand out, and industry threats. They said it'd take a couple hours, but I spent 2 days on it because there are like 10 competitors doing similar stuff. Never heard back for 2 weeks until an email saying they tried calling, but I never got a call or VM. They said I didn't get the job. I asked for feedback since I'm new to startups, but the recruiter never responded, even though they said to reach out with questions and they'd keep in touch for future roles. I'm not upset about not getting the job, but lying about calling is weird. Seems like others had a bad experience with the recruiter too. The company seems interesting, but the recruiter experience was negative. We'll see how they and their competitors do in the future market.
- Can you tell me which of our core values resonate with you?
- Describe a time you encountered adversity at work.
- How do you collaborate cross-functionally with different teams?
Customer Experience Agent
Applied, had a good initial phone screening. About two weeks later, they scheduled a second interview, which I felt I did really well in. It was split into two 30-minute interviews with different managers. They said I was a top candidate and I'd hear back in ONE WEEK. It's now been THREE AND A HALF weeks with no word, and my emails to the hiring manager haven't been answered. I've tried other ways to reach out too. It's unprofessional to give candidates hope and then go silent. This company's hiring process is very slow, expect to wait about a month for any kind of response.
- How would you handle a difficult customer?
Staff Front-End Engineer
I went through the process to join as a Staff Front-End Engineer. It started with a phone call with the recruiter, followed by a simple tech screen. The final stage was an onsite with the team and a talk with a few executives. I got to talk to some nice people, but they didn't ask me any front-end questions, which was weird since it was for a frontend role. In the end, I just got generic feedback saying I wasn't senior enough. Honestly, this company is only worth interviewing at if you really want to work there and have 7+ years of general and full stack experience building systems at scale. Otherwise, don't waste your time. They don't consider the role you're interviewing for when asking questions during the onsite, and there are lots of other companies that actually give you detailed feedback to help you improve.
- Can you determine the winner of a Connect 4 game, implemented in CoderPad?
- Describe your design for the backend infrastructure of a project.
Hospitality Manager
Everyone I talked to was great and helpful. It was really organized. First, a 30-min phone screen with the recruiter, then an onsite with some team members, and finally the hiring manager. The recruiter kept me in the loop and helped me get ready for each part. I was bummed not to get an offer, but I appreciated the quick decision and the feedback.
