First there's a basic interview, like 'why do you want to be a nurse?' and 'why this unit over another?' Then there's a peer review, where the interviewers are typically charge nurses, who are basically your "peers."

It took a few weeks after applying to get an interview, but I got a call and had two interviews, one with an assistant manager and another with two future coworkers. About a week later, I got a conditional job offer, which required a drug test within 48 hours, a background check, and updated vaccinations. After completing those, I met with HR, confirmed my BLS certification, and had my picture taken. Then, over two days, I underwent PCA orientation, with the first day being longer. Following orientation, I started floor training for three days (or 36 hours) before working independently. Two weeks after that, I finished an eight-hour general hospital orientation. I also had to complete annual online training for clinical staff.

Initially spoke with the hiring manager on the phone. Then, I had an interview with a peer which went really well. The team had some standard questions prepared but also asked additional questions as they felt appropriate. It was a pretty relaxed atmosphere. After receiving the job offer, there was a significant delay before anything else happened. The background check process was surprisingly thorough and lengthy. It was the first time I'd encountered a company asking about misdemeanor history. They acknowledged that many people might answer incorrectly regarding DUIs because in Indiana, it's classified as a misdemeanor, not strictly a driving offense. However, the application wording didn't specify 'including DUI or alcohol-related incidents.' My offense was 20 years ago, and it still required the CEO's approval. The third-party company handling the background check had errors in my previous employment details. However, HR mentioned they weren't concerned about that specific part, only looking for any omissions or criminal history.

After applying, I got a call back. Then there was a first interview, followed by a peer interview and a tour. Once I got the offer, there was paperwork to go over, a review of policies and procedures, then orientation of floor care for a week, and then a week or two of adult critical care orientation.
