My experience with Lumen Tech's hiring process was extremely disappointing. From the start, the process was impersonal, time-consuming, and ultimately led to being ghosted. The first red flag was the request for a one-way video, which was a fairly time-consuming process. Then, they asked me to "play" games as part of the interview process, which was strange and childish. After that, I had a 30-minute "interview" with a recruiter, which was really just a sales pitch on how great the company was. I felt slimy when I hung up the phone and should have stopped the process there, but I continued. Next, I had a virtual panel interview with three people who never turned on their cameras. This was very unprofessional and inexcusable in a "professional" environment. Finally, I had a one-on-one interview with the director of a department. While the interview itself was laid back, I was told I would hear something "very soon." However, a month went by, and I heard nothing. I reached out to the recruiter who I had the phone interview with…They replied they were no longer part of the hiring process. Gee, thanks! I reached out to member in the recruiting department and they asked me to wait longer. Another 4 weeks went by, with no response. I reached out again and Lumen responded (from an un-monitored email account) with an automated email response stating I did not get the position. Which is totally fine, I just don’t understand why they blew all the smoke and delayed the response so long. It was clear that the company did not value my time or effort. After 4 “interviews” a call or personal email would have seemed more appropriate. Overall, I found Lumen’s process to be laughable, and the managers were no exception. While I dodged a bullet by not working there, I wasted about seven hours interviewing and preparing for interviews. I would not recommend this company to anyone, and I hope they improve their hiring process in the future.

Behavioral Case

I applied for the role and got a call for an interview two weeks later. The hiring manager was really nice, and it felt more like a conversation with normal interview questions. They discussed training and benefits. I met some of the other reps too. I was offered the position with a great rate of pay plus commission, and I accepted. Now I'm just waiting for the drug test results to start my new job. My advice is to be yourself and relax, answer to the best of your ability. Since it's a sales position, your sales background will help.

Behavioral Other

I met with a lot of really nice, professional, and articulate people. There were over 10 interviews in total! I had to travel to several big cities for meetings with managers and also did a telepresence interview with a panel of managers. The office environment was typical, with cubicles and offices. There's a lot of change happening right now, which is making things challenging for the executives handling interviews and hiring. The whole process is taking way too long.
