First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lumen.
Lead Engineer
I applied and got a link to record myself answering questions within a week. Most of the questions were behavioral, no technical ones, and there was a game afterwards to check my thinking and character. I passed the first part and then a recruiter called me to talk about my qualifications and the job. The recruiter said they'd pass my resume to the hiring manager who would have called me if they were interested. Nothing else happened, and I didn't get the job.
- What would you do if you had to do something for the first time?
Planning Engineer
They had this one-way video interview thing, which was pretty humiliating. I'm not going to do that, like, spend 30 minutes talking to a wall. I doubt anyone will even watch it. It's a shame.
- Tell me about dealing with tough times.
- How have you handled challenging situations?
- Can you describe a difficult period you went through?
Developer
Got contacted by their recruiter, who was pretty professional and made me feel good about the role. The first step was a homework problem, which was a good one and actually related to a real cloud application. Then, the onsite interview was all about coding, like, zero other stuff. They just put me in a room with some other employees, gave me quick instructions, and I started coding. The whole thing was a little weird, maybe good for junior devs? The recruiter followed up the next day to see what I thought about the process, still super professional.
- Can you talk about your experience with REST interfaces and MVC patterns?
- Tell me about a past problem you solved that was interesting, and why.
- Complete the given programming tasks.
