& Process

The interview process was structured and went pretty smoothly. First, there was a call with the recruiter to talk about the job and check my background. Then, I had a technical test to do at home. After that, I interviewed with an Engineering Manager about my experience, how I work, and team culture. Finally, I had a technical interview with two engineers to dive deeper into technical choices and see how we collaborate. The whole thing felt professional and was clear from start to finish.

Recruiting was slow to start. After two interviews, there was radio silence. The first call happened quickly after I applied and went well, with no trick questions. The second call was with the hiring manager the following Monday, and it also seemed to go very well. Then, nothing, just silence. The talent acquisition person told me they had a catch-up with the hiring manager to review and give me feedback that day. Since I heard nothing by Tuesday, I followed up on Thursday morning, but the talent acquisition person didn't even bother to reply to my two follow-ups, which gives a very bad impression of the company.

I really wouldn't recommend interviewing at Lumapps. I'd heard about nepotism there before even applying, and after 3 weeks, I had a call with an HR person who didn't seem very professional. Then, without any technical discussion, they gave me a take-home test. Even though I did a great job on it, I was then invited for a quick chat with an engineer manager who seemed unmotivated and unprofessional. After another 3 weeks, I felt the hiring process was shady and probably based on who they knew, with another candidate likely getting the job. They didn't even give me any feedback. My Lumapps experience was a letdown, and I strongly advise against applying.

Recruiter call happened more than two months after applying. The person was nice and quickly scheduled interviews with the N+1 and N+2. Everything went well and I felt a good connection. The problem came after. I was told I was shortlisted with someone else and would get a quick update. But then nothing. No news on the scheduled day or the day after. I reached out 3 days later with no response. Then they called back to say they decided to go with the other candidate. That's fine, I can accept that. What was unacceptable though, was their reason for refusal, attacking my supposed lack of experience in a specific area. They didn't consider my CV or our conversations. Pathetic excuses and long delays to deliver the news. They clearly waited for the other candidate to accept before contacting me with a weak excuse. Very disappointed with this experience which started well! It's a new company trying to be cool/start-up, but it's just a facade!
