First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Luma Pictures.
Operations and Culture Assistant
I had two interviews. The first was with the people and culture manager and it was good, a normal career-type interview. The second one was with a people and culture associate and it was more personal, which I wasn't expecting and I didn't handle it well.
- Can you tell me about a time you planned a big event and describe that experience?
Technical Director
We had a few video calls initially, then a final in-person meeting at the studio. There were pretty long breaks between each stage. They didn't really make it clear how many hours we'd be expected to work.
- Regarding compensation, what are your salary expectations for this position?
Lighting Artist
This was a phone interview with the studio president. It was pretty straightforward, not an interrogation, especially since I was already a known quantity. It seemed like they were trying to see if I'd accept low pay and limited growth opportunities, which felt like a setup to sabotage my career. I actually bypassed the initial interview because I was a referral, and this call was mainly to check my fit and if I was willing to work for cheap.
- Do you generally ask standard questions to assess compatibility with colleagues and your ability to articulate intelligence regarding visual effects and past projects?
- Did they inquire about your ability to discuss visual effects intelligently and your previous project involvement?
VFX Artist
I applied online after seeing an ad. The VFX Sup contacted me and we had a phone call where we discussed some technical details. Then I spoke with the CEO who asked about my salary expectations. Finally, HR sent an offer via email.
