Social Media Manager
Applied for the Social Media Manager role at Lulu via LinkedIn. HR Manager reached out to set up a video interview. The interview was pretty standard; we went over the job description and my background. They said I'd get an update either way, but I never heard back, not even after I followed up via email. Seems like ghosting is a thing with Lulu, which is a bummer because it's just basic courtesy to let candidates know.
- Can you discuss your background and experience?
Customer Service Representative
It was a really smooth, 2-phase process, and everyone was nice and polite. The first step was an in-person interview. Successful candidates from the initial screening get invited to this interview. It usually involves the hiring manager or a panel and focuses on assessing your skills, experience, and if you're a good cultural fit for the company. They might use behavioral questions and situational scenarios to see how you solve problems and if you align with company values.
- Can you tell me about your qualifications for this position?
General
The HR rep spent about 10 minutes trying to get a sense of whether I was laid off, but they didn't ask directly. I wasn't, but their questions implied that the company might view laid-off employees unfavorably, even if job performance wasn't the reason. I didn't see why it mattered if I was laid off, since many good employees have lost jobs due to the economy. The rep then noticed a small gap in my resume and asked if I had quit without having another job lined up. When I said yes, the HR rep gasped and asked about my savings. I was so surprised that I just said yes, and they followed up with 'but still..'. The rest of the interview was fine, but the beginning left a bad impression.
- Were there financial issues at your previous company?
- Did you have savings when you resigned from your previous role?
Services Fulfillment
The whole hiring process took about six weeks and the HR department was super vague the entire time. I had a couple of phone interviews, and then a panel interview with four people a couple of weeks after that. They also do a really thorough background check, wanting to talk to every supervisor I've ever had. I eventually got an offer after those six weeks, but was never told the pay rate, which was shocking because it was barely minimum wage. Definitely learned my lesson to figure out pay upfront next time so I don't waste six weeks.
- Can you share an instance where you successfully resolved a customer's problem and salvaged a bad situation?
