I had a phone interview first to see if I was interested. She started asking questions right away, even though I was supposed to set a time. It was casual, and she asked about my background. Then, I scheduled an in-person interview for three days later. At the in-person interview, I met with three staff members who asked about my skills and history. It felt casual and friendly. This interview was shorter than the phone one. Afterward, a doctor reviewed my application and called me. I didn't hear back, so I had to reach out, and they told me the position was filled and they forgot to let me know.

I saw an ad in May and got a call the following week. I was invited for an interview and presentation in June. After the interview and visit, I was told I had the job in July. However, I didn't get the offer by the end of July, so I was called back for another interview with higher administration that same month. I had to make two trips from Chicago to New Orleans, and only managed to meet one of the two critical people on those visits. I finally met the second person in another city where he was visiting. The offer came in August, and I accepted it.

It was a slow process, with three interview rounds: two technical and one HR. They went into detail about the department and infrastructure. The interview focused on my flexibility and past experience. The salary was on the lower side with minimal negotiation, but there were state government perks. The work hours are comfortable, 8 to 4. Baton Rouge isn't the most exciting place, but it's a good spot for families.

My first interview was a Zoom call, and it seemed to go pretty well. I've got another interview coming up in person. They asked me some good questions about why I'm interested and when I could start. I also got to ask them about the program and the job details.
