First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Louisiana Legislative Auditor.
Auditor
I applied on a Monday and got a call from HR on Tuesday. The interview was on Thursday and lasted 2 hours. They might ask for a writing sample right then and there to see how you handle pressure and if you can write well. Make sure you do your research before you go. Dress really conservatively. Have at least 30 questions ready to show you're interested. Don't go in there clueless. Also, make eye contact with everyone interviewing you, not just the person asking the question, since there will be at least two or three people. And no jokes!
- Are you comfortable working in chaotic environments?
Auditor
After submitting an online application, there was a telephone contact. This was followed by a single on-site interview that lasted an hour with the Director and Manager. For this interview, I was required to write a paragraph on a topic of my choosing. I also needed to be ready to discuss basic interview questions about my strengths, weaknesses, how I handle pressure, difficult people, and problem-solving. Additionally, I had to be prepared to talk about what I liked least and best about my previous jobs, managers, and co-workers. The interview also included questions about my preference for a quiet versus noisy work environment and an example of a problem I encountered and how I resolved it.
- Could you share an instance of how you handle difficult individuals at work?
Staff Auditor
HR contacted me a few days after I sent in my application and cover letter online. The first call involved some easy phone questions, and then I was invited for an interview the following week. I got a call with an offer the day after that.
- Can you walk me through your background?
- What motivated you to apply for this position?
- What do you consider your greatest strengths and areas for improvement?
