First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lost Boys Interactive.
Environment Artist
The whole interview process was pretty laid-back and pretty typical for this kind of job. First, I chatted with the Hiring Manager to make sure my skills were a good match for the role. Then, I had interviews with different Leads where we talked about my experience and my portfolio. It was a super casual chat, nothing weird or unexpected. After that, I interviewed with Director-level folks to go over the role and how it would fit into their projects. So yeah, nothing too wild, less stressful than other interviews I've had, but still a solid process.
- Could you pick a piece from your portfolio and explain your process for creating it?
Sound Designer
It was a really quick and easy process, very painless. I got to show off my portfolio and explain my workflow. We talked about how I tackle problems, how I collaborate with people, and the value I'd bring to the group.
- Since we're a remote-only studio, how do you handle working remotely?
- How do you work in a remote setting?
- Tell me about your portfolio and your process.
Game Designer
I had four interviews, starting with a screener, then senior management, the team I would have been working with, and finally the manager for the role. The interviews took about six hours in total and finished in early June. The team seemed happy with my experience and design skills. After the last interview, the recruiter said they really wanted to hire me but the role wouldn't be available until July. July passed and I heard nothing. I emailed the recruiter in mid-July for an update, and he had none. They never contacted me again. I know Lost Boys had ownership issues earlier this year, but there's no excuse for not keeping a candidate informed. If you can't confirm hiring, don't expect a candidate to wait around for weeks without interviewing.
- Can you name a game in this genre that you enjoy, and explain how you would make it better?
QA Analyst
The interview process had four steps and took place over two weeks. A recruiter contacted me soon after I applied to set up the first interview, which included high-level questions about my experience and what I was looking for. Next, I had an interview with a team lead that mixed technical and behavioral questions to gauge my experience and how I'd fit into the team. After that, I had a casual call with the Director of QA to learn more about the company and my potential role. Finally, I had a last-minute call with another team, which was also a mix of technical and behavioral questions, similar to the team lead interview.
- Can you explain the distinction between priority and severity?
