First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Loop Returns.
Software Engineer
The interview process at Loop was really quick and organized. It started with a quick phone call about my interest and background. Right after, I got an email about the next steps and to schedule my availability. The next interview was with the hiring manager for 30 minutes, where we talked about my ideal team, why I want to join, and more about my past experience. Within 30 minutes after that, recruiting reached out to set up a technical interview. They clearly explained what to expect, including the application design to talk about, questions about it, and possible issues to solve. After the technical interview, recruiting messaged again to set up the final panel interview, which covered behavioral, team, and company fit. I heard back within an hour after the panel interview with an offer. It was the smoothest and most communicative process I've experienced. I always knew what was coming, who I'd talk to, and their roles. Loop's team was enthusiastic, attentive, and honest, showing their values. I highly recommend this great experience.
- What does your ideal workday look like?
Software Engineer
I went through the interview process with this company. The process was organized, and the people I met were polite. However, I noticed a lack of diversity, as all seven people I met in my three interviews were white. I did well in the behavioral interview and got good feedback on my technical skills, but I wasn't chosen. During the tech interview, I felt an uncomfortable vibe from the interviewers, like they weren't at ease with a person of color. It's hard to describe, but it felt like a date where the other person isn't interested. This unsettling feeling started from the beginning of the tech interview. The feedback I got afterwards was also misleading and didn't match our discussions. Even though the interviews were about mobile and backend, they incorrectly said my Shopify skills were weak. This misrepresentation is disappointing and makes me question the fairness of their process. The company seems to have potential, and many people were kind. However, it feels like people of color might still face challenges in interviews, even when overqualified. While most of the team was welcoming, a couple of individuals seemed uncomfortable around me, and it was noticeable. These experiences show that biases might still exist, even if subtly. Companies need to keep promoting diversity and inclusion and make sure interviews are fair for everyone. Also, giving honest and accurate feedback is super important for candidates' growth and the company's integrity. Overall, my experience was mixed. I liked parts of the interview process but was disappointed by potential bias and the misleading feedback. I hope the company uses this feedback to improve their process, address biases, and give real feedback. This is based on my personal experience.
- Can you tell me about your experience with mobile development?
- What are your skills in backend development?
- How would you describe your expertise with Shopify?
Software Engineer
The team was pleasant, but they seemed to make snap judgments based on misunderstandings. I got a rejection that felt a bit condescending, saying I didn't ask enough good questions and that made me seem not curious. The hiring manager also said my background wasn't a good fit, even though my experience matches a lot of their tech stack. They didn't really ask me about those experiences much. It felt like I was expected to ask better questions than the manager. Honestly, glad I didn't spend too much time on this. I think I might have dodged a weird management style.
