The interview process included submitting a video, an HR interview, a business case exercise, and then two separate interviews with senior partners or Directors. The initial HR chat was pretty standard, mostly about my drive to join and a rundown of my past work. The business case involved doing some analysis in Excel and preparing a presentation, which was then shown to HR during a 30-minute video call, with no client-facing consultants present. The interviews with the partners and directors focused more on my experience and how I'd fit into potential projects. I found the steps logical overall, but I'm marking it as negative because they were really cagey about salary bands, giving me no clue even when I mentioned my expectations early on. They also said I could be placed in any of five different grades upon joining, with the actual grade decided after seven months. This was a big issue because salary expectations really depend on the work location, which I didn't know at the time. Usually, other consulting jobs give you a hint about the grade range. The salary uncertainty, especially after investing a lot of time and effort, like on the business case which takes a couple of days, made it feel like a waste of time for both me and the company. More transparency, like in other consulting roles I've applied for, would be better. I was also unsure about the point of some steps, especially the business case, as there was no feedback given. This lack of feedback for the most time-consuming part also made me less interested in the eventual offer. Some other details were also missed. For example, I saw in another post that consultants share accommodation. HR mentioned accommodation was provided, but didn't say it was with other consultants, which would have been good to know.

I applied online and got an initial interview. They gave me a take-home business case to do in five days. After I showed them my work, I didn't hear anything for like six months. Then they got back to me and offered me $1,100 a month in Houston, plus $500 for food and travel. If I don't get assigned a case in a month, they'd pay me $600 instead.

They start by asking about your basic engineering experience, then give you a test that's pretty much what you do in your day-to-day work. To determine the consultant level, they give you tests using Excel tools that require skills that are hard to learn if you're a recent graduate.
