Tutor
You will have to do a quick subject assessment to prove your knowledge in the areas you want to tutor, and then answer some sample tutoring questions.
- How would you explain osmosis to a student?
Tutor
Adam called me to set up a test, and I took a long lunch from work to go to the Tampa office. When I got there, the receptionist told me Adam wasn't there and gave me a packet and a room to take the test. I sat with another person taking the test. The test had multiple choice grammar questions and a paper to correct. After I finished, I had to find Adam's office myself because no one told me what to do. He was busy, so I waited in the test room. Later, he got me and we talked about my hours and availability. He said he would call in 3 days, but he didn't. I called him back and left a message, but he never returned my call. I called two more times and emailed a few times, but never got a response or an update. Adam seemed nice but disorganized. It was unprofessional to not get a call back or even an email. At the end of the packet, I found the answers to the multiple choice. I told Adam and gave it to him. He asked how I did, and I said I used it to check my answers and marked the wrong ones. He acted like it was fine and I thought everything was okay. They needed tutors, and I was qualified. But I never heard back. Even if they didn't want me, they should have responded. I interviewed at the end of August 2015.
- Can you explain the rules for pronoun tense and verb agreement?
Tutor
After they got my application, they called me in for a pre-employment screening. The manager gave me some aptitude tests to check my knowledge on different tutoring subjects. Based on how I did on the tests, they offered me a job tutoring a specific subject right there and then. I started working about a week later.
- Which subjects do you feel most confident tutoring?
- Is it possible for you to work during nights, overnight shifts, or weekends?
