First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Linamar.
Manufacturing Engineer
Had an HR call first, then went in person to meet with the department manager. They asked me standard questions about the job and then some specific things about my experience from my resume.
- Do you have mechanical aptitude?
- What is your proficiency with measuring tools and applying GD&T?
Manufacturing Engineer
I applied through my school and they interviewed me a week later. I got an offer the day after the interview. The interview questions were mostly behavioral and common sense. They also asked about my resume experience and school projects. The interviewers were really welcoming.
- What strengths do you possess for this position?
Manufacturing Engineer
It was a pretty standard interview process. First, there was a screen call with HR. Then, a longer phone interview with the hiring manager. Lastly, an in-person panel interview with the hiring manager, lead engineer, and an HR rep. This included a shop walk to look at the processes and some questions about them to test my knowledge, seeing a mix of old machines and cutting-edge tech. The company has grown since I'd been there a few years back, and I was really excited about the opportunity. However, I'd highly recommend being very careful about discussing salary before taking personal time for an interview. Before the in-person interview, they asked about salary expectations due to the high cost of living in Asheville, saying they didn't want to waste time. I asked for their range, and they told me. I gave them my current base salary, which was just over the middle of their range, and said I wanted that or better. They said it was acceptable based on my experience. But, the offer came in THIRTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS LOWER than my current salary (the very bottom of their range), with worse benefits than discussed. I was expected to pay my own moving expenses from across the country and submit for a drug test in Asheville within 24 hours. I thought it was a mistake. I asked the HR contact about it and was scheduled for a follow-up with the manager. I asked if my experience wasn't up to standard for the salary, and he said no, but it was all he had in his budget as he needed to hire three people, and mentioned someone else accepted the same offer. He said he could 'probably' get some relo assistance and change the drug test requirement. We never addressed benefits. He repeatedly asked for my bottom dollar, and I told him I couldn't answer without knowing the relo package and benefits. He said he'd see what he could do. I followed up two weeks later and was told he was still working on it. I never heard from them again. So, while the company had awesome potential, fast-paced, new processes, exciting product, and a gorgeous location, it was ultimately disappointing how they wasted my time.
- Can you tell me the meanings of these different gear nomenclature symbols?
- How would you interpret this gear chart from a recent inspection?
- What specific types of CNC experience do you possess?
