Customer Success Manager
The recruiter initially reached out via LinkedIn and provided some initial information. When I asked for more details and pointed out my lack of industry experience, I didn't receive a response. Then, unexpectedly, I got an email thanking me for an application I hadn't submitted. I had a recruiter call where the person was very enthusiastic, mentioning the hiring manager was impressed and keen to meet, emphasizing career growth and my autonomy in the role. However, details about the actual role were scarce, deferred to the hiring manager. When I brought up my lack of experience, he acknowledged it's a niche field and they understand not everyone has the required background, but didn't explain why it was listed as a strict requirement. The interview was scheduled as a Google Meet, but he didn't turn his camera on, making it awkward, so I turned mine off too. Later, I met with the hiring manager, who was quite cold, uninterested, and impatient, asking only a few questions. The entire interview was under 15 minutes. I informed the recruiter shortly after that I was withdrawing my candidacy. Neither the recruiter nor the hiring manager responded. The whole experience lacked professionalism.
- Can you tell me about yourself and your background?
- What is your experience relevant to this role?
Customer Success Manager
The recruiter was super nice and kept me in the loop, and the job seemed like a really good fit for what I've done before. I went through 4 interview rounds. One round involved creating and presenting an account plan. I didn't hear back for about two weeks, and when I finally did, they told me they weren't actually hiring for the position. It was pretty disappointing to have invested so much time when the role wasn't even open. They also recorded my presentation, which feels a bit shady now, thinking they might have been after free ideas since the job wasn't real.
- Can you walk us through an account plan as if you had already been hired for this position?
Customer Success Manager
It was a pleasant interview process. They asked standard questions about my background and experience, why I was seeking a new role, and what drew me to customer success. I didn't move forward, but the recruiter gave helpful feedback. He mentioned not wanting to prolong the hiring process, which I appreciated given the current job market with multiple interview rounds and search fatigue.
- Could you describe your day-to-day client interaction in your previous job?
- What kind of client engagement did you have on a daily basis in your current role?
- Tell me about your background and what you've done.
