First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lightpath.
Analyst
It was a 2 round interview process. After the first interview, they got back to me quickly. After the second interview, I heard nothing back. It's been over 3 weeks and still no word from HR/recruiter. They seemed interested during the interviews and indicated they would be in touch soon, but then they ghosted me after multiple rounds. It was very confusing, unprofessional, and unethical.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What are your main strengths?
Director
The overall interview experience was excellent. It began with a recruiter phone call, followed by 6 in-person interviews at the Jericho office, each lasting about 45 minutes, including one with the president of Lightpath. This took place over 3 days. While each interviewer had a unique style, they were all very genuine and approachable. The interviews mainly explored my abilities and how I could contribute to the organization in the role. There was also an emphasis on cultural fit and cross-departmental collaboration. The entire process, from the initial recruiter contact to the offer, took about 4 weeks, though the holidays did extend this timeline a bit. After some negotiation and a final call with the hiring manager that solidified my decision, I accepted the offer. Despite having other offers from a major software company and a startup, I chose Lightpath.
- Can you describe a time you dealt with a difficult person from another department? How did you manage the situation and what was your strategy?
Account Executive
A contract recruiter for Optimum Lightpath reached out to me. I sent in my resume and a cover letter. The recruiter and I talked about the job, and then he asked for a summary of my work history. I sent that in, and he emailed me to say the hiring manager would check with an internal contact at one of my old jobs. I replied right away and questioned both his and Optimum Lightpath's screening methods. I told the recruiter that what he and Optimum were doing was illegal and very unethical. I pulled out of the running immediately and told him I wouldn't work with him or Optimum Lightpath. Avoid their contract recruiter and this company at all costs!
- Regarding your role at that company, what information was listed on your W-2?
Software Engineer
This was a standard interview process. I met with both the department manager and director one-on-one. It felt like a regular interview, with questions ranging from why I'm interested in the company to very specific programming questions. The interviewers were knowledgeable and made the conversation flow naturally.
- Which programming languages do you know well?
