First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lifestyle Publications.
Publisher
I was intrigued by this company because of their business model and felt a connection to their philosophy. A recruiter from corporate reached out, and then I spoke with someone else about the role. The interviewer talked a lot about his own background. He seemed really interested in my experience in sales, publishing, and my entrepreneurial spirit. I was then asked to complete a personality test. He said he'd call me back after reviewing the results to discuss the opportunity further. He was supposed to call at the scheduled time, but he never did, and I didn't get any communication. It was quite unprofessional; even a polite rejection would have been better. Interestingly, I had suggested they focus on a different area that I thought would be a better fit for the publication than the advertised role, given my knowledge of that region. He didn't seem to consider it. However, I noticed they are now hiring a publisher in the exact area I recommended. I think I'll decline at this point.
- Do you have the funds required for the initial investment?
- Are you able to manage without an income for the first few months of launching the publication?
Publisher
I had a phone interview with a really great younger guy. He was super professional and patient, and answered all my questions quickly and clearly. He called me a day after I applied, which was nice. I ended up deciding to go in a different direction, even though it looked like a great opportunity, but it was a good experience and I'll think about this company for future jobs.
- Can you share some general background and demographic details about yourself?
- What is your interest in lifestyle?
Sales
It was great. Respectful and organic. It was a conversation, not a series of questions designed to trick you or make you feel inadequate. I was at ease and comfortable and found myself "WANTING" to work there at the end of the interview. And you know, that tone of the interview has been the same respectful tone of my time here. This is a great company.
- What makes you stand out from others?
- Why are you the right fit?
Content Coordinator
They'll ask for some clips via email first, and if they like them, you'll have an in-person interview. You should be ready to talk about how you'd come up with stories and story ideas. The local publisher will interview you, and since it's a co-ownership with the main company, they have a lot riding on this, so make sure you impress them. Being on time was important to my interviewer.
- Can you describe how you'd prepare for an interview with a local celebrity?
