First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Life360.
IOS Developer
First I talked to the recruiter, then I had a pair-programming round that was like Leetcode. After that, they set up more interviews: another pair-programming round with a Leetcode problem, an architecture/system design chat, a behavioral interview, and one last domain-specific pair-programming round.
- Could you build a project using SwiftUI or UIKit, incorporate a Swift Package, retrieve JSON data, decode it, and then show it on the screen?
- How would you approach implementing an app that functions similarly to FOO, a well-known application like Twitter, focusing on data structures?
- Can you solve a problem involving a ListNode?
IOS Engineer
I had a screening call and then another screening with the hiring manager. Everyone was super nice and it was a relaxed conversation. It didn't work out in the end.
- Can you discuss your previous work experience?
- What led to your departure from past roles?
IOS Engineer
I had an initial chat with the hiring manager, then went on to a coding exercise. The coding exercise felt a bit all over the place, and the problems they gave us didn't seem very realistic for the amount of time. They asked for two things: first, to build NotificationCenter from the ground up without using any built-in iOS stuff, and second, to quickly design and write an API that logs when drivers enter and leave a parking garage, including timestamps, all in just 15 minutes.
- Could you rewrite NotificationCenter from scratch, avoiding any iOS native libraries?
- Can you write and architect a complete API within 15 minutes to track, record, and timestamp drivers entering and exiting a parking garage?
