First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at LGI Homes.
Sales Associate
I didn't make it past the 2nd interview, I believe there are 3 total. For the first interview, LGI contacted around 40-70 interviewees and basically had us come in and tell us about LGI. After a brief history of the company, they interviewed candidates and had us do a small personality test. A few days later, I was emailed to come in for a 2nd interview. In the 2nd interview, they go over your personality test and ask questions similar to see if you answer them the same way. After about 10-15 personality test questions, they go into qualification questions.
- Could you share a brief story about yourself, anything at all?
Sales Associate
Started with a recruiter call, then went to a recruitment event with over 70 people. We all took a DISC assessment and had quick interviews with 1-2 sales managers. Then I got a call for a second interview where I discussed my DISC results. They said to eat a good breakfast because the questions are direct and mostly "Yes" or "No". The interview can be 90 minutes or more. After that, I was invited to an "observation" day at an LGI community. It's a good way for both the candidate and company to see if it's a good fit. If you get an offer, it means you fit the training and company culture, or maybe you were referred by an employee and already had the job. If you don't get an offer, it's not about your sales skills, it's all about the culture fit.
- What makes you want to work for LGI Homes?
- Is there anything you would suggest changing about our interview process?
Sales Associate
The interview process started with a quick recruiter call, under 10 minutes, scheduled about a week after applying. A week later, a second interview was set up, lasting about an hour and a half. It was a bit strange that another sales associate, only 45 days into the job, was included. They had a lot of opinions despite their limited time there. The first 45 minutes felt like a sales pitch with slides. Then, for 15-20 minutes, it was a yes/no review of a DiSC personality assessment taken beforehand, essentially confirming answers. The next 10-15 minutes involved more yes/no questions about the detailed personality description from the assessment, scoring accuracy from 1-10 and explaining what was or wasn't accurate. The biggest issue was the demand that you must own and use a vehicle less than 5 years old, and if you don't, you have to buy one before starting. This seemed odd since I thought prospects would be provided. I also take great care of my current car. They also requested 3 references, which is standard. I mentioned I'd check availability and send the form, but they emailed asking for completion by 3:30 PM the same day, ignoring my request. It seems they lack active listening, as they also wanted me to fly in for the interview and then work a free Saturday. They also expect a new car purchase before the first paycheck, long hours (8:30 AM to 7 PM) with split days off, and commission-only pay after 100 days, with 50% benefits provided. I was not impressed and decided not to proceed.
- Do you have the ability to purchase a new vehicle that is under 5 years old prior to your start date?
