First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Lesley University.
Assistant Manager
It was a really long process with many interviews, and some of the same people interviewed me multiple times. They were nice enough during communication, but after making it seem like I would get an offer, they just ghosted. It felt like they didn't see me as a human who deserved basic courtesy. I guess I dodged a bullet though, because I've been happily employed somewhere else ever since. The job has been posted again many times since then, and the same manager is still in charge. It's no wonder they can't keep anyone. Just stay away from this place.
- What are the standard questions for this role?
Learning and Development Manager
The interview process had 3 phases. First, a phone interview which was introductory and informational. Then, a second interview with the hiring manager, conducted remotely with video. Finally, a third phase involved a presentation to faculty and team members, followed by a Q&A session.
- What are your strategies for designing initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion?
Executive Assistant
The interview process for Executive Assistant to the Deans at Lesley College of Undergraduate studies started in November 2022 and wrapped up on March 9th, 2023. It was quite a lengthy process. First, on Nov 15th, there was a 30-minute call with an associate dean. Then, on Nov 21st, a 3-person panel zoom interview with a search committee, chairs, and another EA. On Dec 9th, I spent three hours with a dozen staff members in rotating 30-minute interviews during an in-person panel, followed by an hour with both Deans. References were checked on Dec 15th. After that, there was radio silence until January 3rd. I asked about salary and scheduling on Dec 22nd but got no info, just that salary details would come with an offer. I also asked about direct support but no answer. On Jan 20th, I had a 45-minute zoom with the Provost and President. An offer came on Feb 23rd, but the title and role had changed. I requested a call with HR to discuss, and two calls were set up over 3 weeks but both canceled. The offer was withdrawn on March 9th, and the position was supposedly put on hold, though it was reposted the same day and still is. I asked why it was on hold but still posted, but didn't get a clear answer. Throughout this whole thing, I was professional. But the recruitment team at Lesley University could improve by respecting candidates' time, being equitable, streamlining the process, letting candidates meet their team, communicating clearly and timely, having a contact person for questions, shortening turnaround time, and posting the salary range. I was disappointed and hope professionalism and clear communication become a priority.
- Can you describe your time management strategies?
- How do you handle the time management of those you directly support?
- What is your approach to building relationships with various directors?
Assistant Professor
I had a phone interview with a group of professors and the Department Chair. Then, I came in for a full day of interviews. This included teaching a class lesson I made up and showing a slideshow about my research. The whole in-person thing took seven hours. It had a one-on-one with the dean, a one-on-one with the Search Committee, the class lesson, a presentation of my research, a Q&A session, meeting with students, and a final wrap-up.
