Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Leroy Merlin.
Cashier
The interview was relaxed but very vague. Salary, benefits, and the number of available positions were not discussed unless asked, and even then, the information was given as if it were being hidden. They only talked about the company's history. Candidates have the right to know about salary and benefits, especially since many spend money on transportation to attend. In an interview where more than 10 candidates were called, it was only revealed at the end, with great difficulty (someone dared to ask as they were leaving), that there was only one position available. The recruiter's response, with awkward laughter, was that it's just one opening. I found this lack of respect for those seeking an opportunity, and all this mystery and stalling, to be humiliating for such a common job as a store attendant working 6x1 shifts in a shopping mall (closing shifts). It's a joke; they should be more transparent with candidates! There are 3 stages, involving coordinators and the director, before approval.
- Share an interesting fact about yourself.
Cashier
It's a pre-recorded video interview. First, you get a link to a platform. Then, you do some tests to check your camera, mic, and internet. Once the interview starts, you'll see or hear a question. There are usually 5 to 7 questions. After each one, you have a short time (like 30 seconds) to think. You only have 1 to 2 minutes to answer, and you can't re-record. The whole thing takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
- Tell us about yourself and your greatest achievement. Why do you want to join Leroy Merlin?
- How do you handle difficult customer situations?
Store Assistant
The interview had 3 stages, with different people wanting to learn more about you. They are more interested in you as a person rather than your qualifications, as this is a very customer-focused job. For the Store Assistant position, the most important skills are communication and staying calm under pressure, which can happen when dealing with customers. Technical knowledge is helpful but not essential as there's a training plan for new hires.
- What are your hobbies?
- What makes you want to apply for this position?
- Are you familiar with our products?
