First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at LePort Schools.
Director
I put in my application online and didn't hear back for two months. After that, I had to go through six more steps, which included Skype interviews, skills tests, in-person group interviews, and then I met with the head of school. They explained the long process was to make sure the candidate was thoroughly vetted before meeting the head of school, so he/she could decide if the candidate was a good "cultural fit." I guess I wasn't, because after all that, I got an email saying they decided to go with someone else. FYI, the salaries are pretty low (for this job, it's $15-$20K less than my previous job). The Glassdoor reviews for this place are spot on. It was good to know what to expect. Still a bummer.
- Given the long commute, why do you want to work here?
- Given that you're not a Montessori specialist, why do you want to work here?
- Given that you don't speak (the language taught at the school), why do you want to work here?
Executive Director
The hiring process involved an initial phone screen, followed by a Skype interview with the COO. After that, there was a written assessment with scenario-based questions. The final stage was an all-day in-person interview with various staff members, including the CEO. However, a peer interview during this final stage became very uncomfortable. The interviewer aggressively questioned my country of origin, which made me uneasy. The situation escalated when the interviewer reacted extremely negatively and unprofessionally to my response about managing approximately 25 employees, questioning how that was possible in a loud manner. The interview ended abruptly. The organization has not provided any follow-up communication since then.
- The majority of questions asked were meaningful and relevant to the job description.
Teacher
I applied online and got a call about a week later. Had a quick phone chat with recruitment about my past kid experience. Then they set up a meeting with the Head of School. The interview was pretty chill. The Head of School had a list of questions, but we didn't finish them all because I gave pretty long answers to the situational ones. It lasted about 30 minutes and they said they'd email me by the end of the week if I got the job.
- Given what you know about our school, what makes you want to work here?
Montessori Teacher
We had an in person interview. They asked me a bunch of questions about Montessori knowledge and my work ethics. Also, they asked me about myself, my personal interests and my experience. They also asked about my educational background. Then they asked questions about child psychology and positive discipline. And they asked questions about executive functions in children.
- What draws you to the Montessori approach?
- What do you enjoy about working with children?
