First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Leatherman Tool.
Manufacturing Project Engineer
The whole process took about three months from when I applied to the final interview. I saw the job on Craigslist and applied online. A couple of weeks later, HR emailed asking for more details on my past work. A few weeks after that, they emailed again to set up a one-hour interview with my future team and the HR person. The next week, I had a second interview that lasted four hours. It started with a tour, then I met with two different cross-functional teams, and finished with the VP of Operations. It was a long process, but it was run well. The HR rep was helpful, giving me good info before and after each interview. She even called me to talk for a bit about why they decided not to offer me the job.

Product Design Engineer
I applied online and the application itself was a huge part of the interview process, taking me several hours to complete. It asked a lot of questions about my experience and work situations. I answered some questions a bit too quickly because of how long it was, which came back to bite me later. I tried to follow up by calling HR to get the hiring manager's name for a cover letter, but they gave me the standard response. Fortunately, they were interested and a few weeks later, the HR woman called me for a Skype interview with her and the hiring manager. The hour-long Skype interview covered standard engineering and work situation questions. They brought up points from my online application and I had to clarify some of my answers. They asked a lot about my group work abilities, making me feel like they thought I didn't work well with others or was too arrogant. A few weeks after that, the HR woman called again and asked me to come to Portland for an all-day interview. The day started with an hour at a large table answering questions from 8-10 managers. Then, another hour with 5-6 engineers grilling me with questions, mostly about manufacturing and product testing, areas where I admitted I had little experience. I was surprised all the product design engineers were in their 20s and 30s. Lunch with the engineers was more relaxed and informal. After lunch, I toured the plant, which was really impressive as they make almost everything on-site. Finally, I met with the HR woman and hiring manager for about 45 minutes, mostly asking them questions. They said I'd hear back in a few days, but it took longer. I didn't get the job, which was a shame because I liked the role and the environment. I'd do it again if given the chance.

Had a phone interview, then met with the whole team in a panel interview. It was a really good chat with everyone, and I got a sense of their personalities and the company culture, and I knew it was a good fit.

I got an email with some screening questions first. Then there was a phone call. After that, I had a panel interview with about 8 people from the department. The last interview was with the manager. They were really flexible about setting the time for the face-to-face interview.
