ABA Tutor
We'll start with a few questions about ABA, then discuss your previous work in the field. We'll also go over some hypothetical situations and talk about salary. I'll review your resume and application, and we'll discuss your skills and abilities.
- Could you explain what ABA stands for?
Instructional Aide
I met with the lead scheduler in a back room. She was nice, but she asked about my desired pay. When I said I was looking for 13-16, she rolled her eyes, which I'd seen in another interview experience. It was pretty straightforward. They asked about handling a child's tantrum and how to calm them down.
- Can you tell me about your availability?
- What is your availability?
- What are your work hours?
ABA Tutor
Had a quick phone interview that was about 15 minutes. Then I had an in-person interview. While I was waiting in the office for my interview, I overheard the receptionists talking about finding new jobs. When they asked me if $11-15 an hour was acceptable, I asked for $13. The interviewer seemed irritated, and she didn't even try to hide it. I received an offer, but I turned it down. They offered me $11 an hour, which I felt was too low considering I would be driving over 30 miles at least twice a day to work with children with special needs.
- What's your approach to managing a child having a tantrum?
- Would you be okay with a pay rate between $10 and $15 per hour?
Behavior Consultant
The interview process involved a series of questions about my experience with children, my understanding of ABA principles, and functional behavior analysis. They also asked about my experience with children with special needs. I was often presented with scenarios and asked how I would respond. A lot of focus is put on research-backed methods for behavioral strategies, so having a research background is helpful. The process is mostly done in person. It usually involves a recruiter call, then a technical screen, then an onsite interview with a presentation, and finally a background check before an offer.
- Can you name the primary functions of behavior?
