This was a very lengthy process. It started with a phone interview with HR, followed by a video interview with the CEO. Then, there was another video interview with the VP. The final stage was an in-person interview at the office with the CEO, HR, VP, and three other people. It was strange because nobody seemed to know the specific discipline I was being hired for, even though they were hiring an expert. This meant the questions were more general. Unfortunately, I was ghosted after five interviews over two months; nobody got back to me via email or phone. My advice to hiring managers: if a candidate makes it to an in-person interview but isn't hired, a rejection email is absolutely required. With the leverage of sites like Glassdoor, you risk losing top talent. Your people are your greatest asset. But it turned out to be a blessing in disguise after reading all the negative reviews.

I first saw an ad for Staff Developers at LSI through ASCD Smartbrief, looking for people to help deliver professional development to school districts in Florida. I got in touch in February, and things seemed to be moving, but then communication just stopped. About two months later, they reached out again and asked me to attend a training. I was hired as a contracted staff developer and then was asked to do some 'extra' work, which ended up leading to a job offer for my current role. Apparently, the communication breakdown was because they didn't have enough staff for the amount of work they were doing. The company has really grown fast recently.

It was a thorough and thoughtful interview process. They asked for powerful and relevant writing samples. The initial phone interview was friendly and got straight to the point, assessing talent and culture fit. Then, there were follow-up phone interviews with other leaders. The next step was a challenging writing assignment that required preparation. If I was a top candidate, I'd be flown down and put up in a hotel. The onsite interview was very thorough, requiring a deep understanding of the company's websites, mission, products, and positions. The company also conducted a detailed background check.

The whole thing took about 2 months. It was pretty chill and conversational. Since it's a really small company, they had some trouble getting interviews scheduled quickly, so expect to wait maybe 2-3 weeks after you say you're available to get one set up.
